1745 Benjamin Franklin imprint commissioned by the Philadelphia Synod, a collection of religious texts bound together including:
- Preface (3-9)
- Mr. Thomas Manton's Epistle to the Reader (9-21)
- The Westminster Confession of Faith, The Larger and Shorter Catechisms, with the Scripture Proofs at Large (21-164)
- The Larger Catechism (165-366)
- The Shorter Catechism (367-410)
- The Sum of Saving Knowledge (411-446)
- The Confession of Faith of the Kirk of Scotland, or the National Covenant (447-462)
- The Solemn League and Covenant (463-470)
- A Solemn Acknowledgment of Publick Sins (471-482)
- The Directory for the Publick Worship of God (483-522)
- The Form of Presbyterial Church-Government (523-557)
- The Directory for Family-Worship (559-562, missing 563-567)
- A Table of the Chief Matters Contained in the Confession of Faith and Larger Catechisms (1 of the original 24 unnumbered pages)

Approximately 6.75" by 4.25" (Octavo). Binding has surface cracks, overall fairly worn with evidence of touch up and light restoration. Hinges intact, possibly due to previous restoration. Blank leaf (with two signatures from former owners), title page, 562/567 numbered pages, 1/24 unnumbered pages from table. 1 facsimile leaf added to the end.
Title page and first text leaf (preface) contain slight loss including chipping/tearing. Light water staining to the first few pages and various parts throughout. 193/194 missing a small portion of the top of the page, obscuring page number and part of the title header, but none of the main text. Page 239/240 missing small corner, again obscuring the page number but none of the main text. Half inch tear to the top of 253/254. Small ink stain on page 519. Loose fragment found in book, unable to match with any of existing leaves. Missing final text leaf, and one leaf of the end table. Original text contained 567 pages and 24 unnumbered pages. After the Presbytery of New Brunswick was expelled from the Synod in 1741 during a major division in the Church. Jonathan Dickinson left the Synod in 1745 to form the Synod of New York. An advocate ofthe Great Awakening, Dickinson founded a seminary that later became Princeton University. The first American publication oftheConfession, with the larger catechism and brief summary of Christian Doctrine added, was done in Boston by S. Kneeland for D. Henchman in 1723, from Rothwell's London edition of 1658. [Benjamin Franklin, as printer] used as his copy text, the Thomas Lumisden of John Robertson edition of Edinburgh, 1728, which with its completed 'canon' and accurate texts based on William Dunlop's edition of 1719 which represented the norm of Scottish editions."
